Supporting thriving teams

We’re proud to help care for the dedicated Guy’s and St Thomas’ teams.

Driving change, responding and adapting in times of crisis.

The Guy’s and St Thomas’ teams are passionate about delivering exceptional care. It’s essential we care for them too.

We’re dedicated to supporting them, showing our appreciation and enabling them to keep pushing boundaries today and every day.

Enhancing staff wellbeing

The pressure of working in the NHS over time can take a personal toll, having a significant impact on staff mental and physical health. That’s why we help Guy’s and St Thomas’ provide one of the most extensive staff health and wellbeing programmes within the NHS.

It’s open to everyone, offering a wide range of support including counselling, financial advice, a physiotherapy service, and even exercise equipment.

“At Guy’s and St Thomas’ there is a real investment in staff health, in a way that’s different to other hospitals. It’s absolutely central to their wellbeing.”

Comforting in turbulent times

Despite being pushed to their limits by the COVID-19 pandemic, the compassion and dedication of the teams – day after day, month after month – is inspiring. But the impact on their wellbeing showed more than ever how essential it is that we care for them too.

Thanks to our supporters, we have been able to help Guy’s and St Thomas’ provide round-the-clock psychological and spiritual supportThis package meets the needs of the diverse workforce and is designed to offer ongoing support and long-term trauma recovery.

“The wellbeing zones are invaluable. We can walk away from a stressful environment and switch off for a minute. It’s space to relax, read, enjoy refreshments, and a listening ear when we need one.”

Recharging and resting tired feet

Your donations helped us introduce wellbeing zones across the hospitals and community sites during the pandemic. These calm and restful spaces give staff somewhere to recharge and decompress after a tough shift.

They can refuel with drinks and snacks, unwind in a massage chair, enjoy some aromatherapy, or get on-the-spot support from mental health experts.

With your support, we will be making these vital spaces a permanent fixture in the hospitals. Nothing more than the exceptional teams deserve.

Fine tuning essential skills

During the pandemic, new systems were brought in to help protect staff and patients. Rapidly responding to what the teams needed, we funded a ‘patient simulator’ – a high-tech manikin that breathes, talks and can be given drugs – for the Trust’s Simulation and Interactive Learning Centre (SaIL).

Your donations meant we could also buy new recording equipment, meaning training could be adapted and delivered online, and teaching sessions could be live streamed. This way, more of the expert teams could keep developing their skills and delivering the most up-to-date care, while keeping themselves and the people under their care safe.

We are constantly inspired by the remarkable teams at Guy’s and St Thomas’, and we’re proud to be their charity. They’re committed to keep exceeding the ever-changing needs of those who need their care.
