Medicinema at Guy

Lights, camera, action!

Did you know you’re helping transport patients to magical lands, historical battles or a superhero’s headquarters? Your support means we can fund the remarkable MediCinema at Guy’s Hospital.

A trip to the cinema is a wonderful way to escape everyday life

For patients in hospital, it can be a lifeline, offering a much-needed break from the ward and giving their mental health a boost.

That’s why the MediCinema at Guy’s Hospital is so important – and it wouldn’t be here without your support.

Something to look forward to

Nicks, MediCinema manager, says, “The cinema gives patients something to look forward to. It’s wonderful to see the change in their mood once they’ve been to watch a film and it makes a real difference to their experience of being in hospital.”

On the days films are shown, Nicks will visit the wards to find out which patients want to catch a screening. Just before showtime, she’ll double check with the nurses that patients are OK to leave the ward before they make their way to the cinema.

For patients who cannot leave their beds, a recent refurbishment means they can now be wheeled straight to the front of the cinema to enjoy the movie.

“It’s really special to give patients memories that aren’t just sitting in a hospital bed. It means they can share a ‘normal’ experience with friends and family, and gives them something to talk about that’s nothing to do with their treatment.”

Creating special memories

Nicks has been involved with the cinema since it opened in December 2013.

Some of her highlights include organising screenings for individual patients and their loved ones, group screenings for hard-working staff, and dressing up for film premieres!

Thank you to our generous supporters for helping to make the MediCinema at Guy’s Hospital possible for over a decade and putting a smile on so many patients’ faces.

Make a lasting impact by helping us create special moments for patients at Guy’s and St Thomas’.
