Guidance on applying for funding

We can only fund projects or items that cannot be funded by the NHS. Before applying, see if you can secure funding from the Trust first.

Items and projects must either benefit the Trust as a whole or focus on projects which are not specifically for the benefit of children, people with cancer or maternity services (with the exception of maternity bereavement). For these areas please go to:

• Evelina London Children’s Charity
• Guy’s Cancer Charity

We can fund:

• equipment (medical and non-medical).
• consumables and materials.
• refurbishment and capital (building).
• non-permanent staff costs, for example, staff hired to support a project.
• service improvement initiatives.
• any other items that directly support care and that can’t be funded from other sources.

We can’t fund:

• items that are core NHS funding responsibilities (such as those related to ensuring health and safety).
• applications to support individually named patients.
• permanent salary costs.
• recurrent and ongoing maintenance costs (projects and equipment must be self-sustaining once an initial grant has been given).
• projects or activities which directly or indirectly substantially benefit commercial companies providing services to the hospital.
• applications for activities or equipment that have already been completed.

You can apply if you are a member of staff at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

You can apply if you hold an honorary contract with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

You can apply if you work in Guy’s and St Thomas’ Community Services in Lambeth and Southwark.

When completing a full application form, you’ll be asked to give us the contact details of the manager (who should be a member of your Directorate Management Team (DMT)) and the Finance Officer who will approve your application.

You should make them aware of your project before finishing your full application form.

We’ll get in touch with them to make sure the project has their approval.
